Let’s build an eWindow: and open video communication tool [8pm Tuesday May 8th].
Come on by the CRASH Space weekly public meeting (8pm Tuesday May 8th) for a demonstration of the eWindow, an open video communication tool.
What’s needed? About 30 minutes, a raspberry PI, a webcam, jack (NON USB) speakers, a monitor, and a 4 GB SD memory card. (Details here: http://ewindow.org/ hardware.html)
What’s going to happen? After building the eWindow, we will attempt to connect with LA Tejedora in Quito, Ecuador.
About the speakers. CRASH is the number 107th Shared Space lorenza and Giulio have been to. Tonight they will present the EWindow, an electronic window as a tool to connect community based shared spaces in a non mediated and independent way, like a window in a wall.
Their research on community economy started in 2012, in their latest book “Comanufacturing and new economic paradigms” they explain why they thought the EWindow would have been an important project to develop to strengthen these spaces and their communities.
What’s so great about these eWindows anyway?
1. OPEN SOURCE
// The code is in GitHub, enjoy it //
2. DECENTRALIZED
// No central control by some corporation using your data for other purposes //
3. FREE
// Everything (codes, hardware) is shared. Go to ewindow.org//
4. COMMUNITY DRIVEN
// Everything (codes, hardware) can be modified, improved, adapted by the community. Go
to ewindow.org//
5. NO RECORDING
// It works like a real window. Only when you’re in front others can see you and you can
see them//
6. NO DATA COLLECTION
// Data directly flow from one window to another one. There is no way for a central server
to grab these//
