Ludum Dare 26 Launch Party: Friday April 26th 6pm

Ludum Dare is a regular challenge to make a video game from scratch in a weekend.
It’s wild and crazy, an impossible restriction to do all your work in 48 hours that keeps you from making the mistake everybody does, which is to try too much. And no matter how terrible your game is, you made it in two days! It’s the perfect mix of hard and excusable.

To make sure everyone starts at the same level, when Ludum Dare starts, a theme is announced, upon which the game developers must base their game. A subject like Evolution, or Kittens.

Everyone from world-famous game developers to first timers, grandparents to high schoolers participate. If you don’t know how to program, there are point and click interfaces like GameMaker, if you can program but don’t know how to make art there are engines which can make it for you. People of all levels who love games are welcome to participate.

Even if you don’t want to make a game, but are just interested in the spectacle, you can come by on Friday April 26th. The announcement happens at 6pm, but we’ll be at the space all night brainstorming and working on our entries. Come help us be creative!

Is there an age limit? Because i was wondering if there was, and if you don’t have a membership to the space can you still come and make a game?

There is no specific age limit, no, there were entries from kids in primary school and pensioners in the last contest. And this is a public event, anyone can come by the space to participate.

Will you guys have space for participants to work? If so how many spots? Is there any registration involved? I am an artist looking to collab with others to make a game for the Jam. Will there be others looking to join up with a team? Very interested, let me know.

    Hi Steve,

Yes, we have tables, chairs, internet, and soda for all your ludum dare needs. It’s a public night, anyone can come, I’m not that worried about hitting our capacity, we can handle 30 people in the space in a pinch.

There are always adhoc teams getting put together at these, so I would say you stand a good chance of finding some collaborators at the launch.
