Deep Work Sessions!

We will do communal pomodoros to get deep work done on things like our Resumes, Business Plans, Budgets, and Marketing. According to Cal Newport’s Deep Work, 4 hours are about the maximum for a person to do deep work a day. Our goal will be to get through 12 pomodoros of deep work a day next week on things that improve our professional and financial well being! 

Feel free to come at any time of the day, but please be mindful we will be trying to do deep work — keep socializing to periods between pomodoro deep focus sessions.

We will work together to research best practices for resumes, small business bootstrapping, marketing and financial planning.

CrashSpace will be open 9-5 Monday through Friday the Week of January 26 – 30 for Professional Development Co-Working. We will have specific blocks of time for collaborative workshops and lectures.

Monday January 26: Resume A Thon!

• 9am (free time): get settled and plan for the day. These are co-mentoring sessions, so we will discuss what to research, how to divide our research up between us for maximum effectiveness
• 10am (2 Pomodoros): We will write our dream resume. Oftentimes when we create a resume we feel we have to hide what we actually want to do. We will write a resume that speaks to our creativity and passion. We will think of our dream jobs.
• 11am (2 Pomodoros): We will write the first draft of our professional resumes. We will create detailed lists of what we have done at each job, thinking carefully about what we have gotten done. We will generate source documents for each section that we can use later.
• Noon —  Free Time: Bring your own lunch, or there are restaurants in the area.
• 1pm — (2 Pomodoros): Algorithmic parsing. We will research key words that AI applicant sorting systems are looking for and hone our systems.
• 2pm  — (2 Pomodoros): Group Critique. We will present and discuss our resumes and get feedback.
• 3pm (2 Pomodoros): Resume draft 2: we will tighten up and adjust our resumes with the feedback in mind
• 4pm  (2 Pomodoros): Final tighten up and production. We will set up our systems for tailoring our resumes to specific employers and document our results.

January 27: Startups, Small Business and SoloPreneurship Day!

• 9am – (free time) – Get Settled and discuss our goals for the day.
• 10am – (2 pomodoros) – Dream about what we want to do with our lives. We will imagine what our ideal day looks like, what we want to work on, what challenges and problems we are facing.
• 11am – (2 pomodoros) – Market Research and Forecasting. We will research what the market is doing, try to find ways to research and keep on top of what is happening in the market in ways that aren’t doom scrolling LinkedIn
• noon(2 pomodoros) –  We will describe our projects and what we do and work on our elevator pitches. What are we selling? Who is it for?
• 1pm(Free Time) – LNSY has a Vibe Coaching session, so you all can grab lunch while they take care of that. Bring your own lunch, or there are restaurants in the area.
• 2pm(2 Pomodoros) – Elevator pitch-athon. We will test our elevator pitches on each other, get feedback on our business ideas and iterate iterate iterate!
• 3pm(2 Pomodoros) – We will write the first draft of our formal business plans and consult with one another about them.
• 4pm(2 Pomodoros) – We will tighten up our business plans with our feedback and write our second drafts

January 28: Marketing and Hype

The world is full of contradictions. Anyway: todays theme is Ethical Marketing.

• 9am (Free Time) — We will discuss our research goals for the day, contemplate either our resumes, our business plans or both.
• 10am (2 Pomodoros) — We will research guerrilla marketing techniques and cheap ways to get noticed by possible clients / employers
• 11am (2 Pomodoros) — We will research and think about our web presence — both social media and web sites
• Noon (Free Time) — Lunch. Bring your own, or there are restaurants in the area
• 1pm (2 Pomodoros) — We will generate our first round of marketing attempts and then critique them as peers
• 2pm (2 Pomodoros) — We will generate our revised marketing attempts, share them with our peers and critique them
• 3pm (2 Pomodoros) — We will generate a marketing plan with actionable, daily goals to market ourselves or our product.
