1/29 – Learn To Build Bicycle Wheels

Ready to roll your own? Most riders treat wheels like a “black box” of mystery and tension, but they are simple, incredible feats of engineering that anyone can master.

Join us the first of two classes on wheelbuilding. This session is all about the ideas and decisions before we get to the actual hands on building. We’ll dive into the physics of why wheels stay round, how to navigate the headache of modern hub/rim/brake/tire standards, and how to calculate spoke lengths so your build goes smoothly.

What We’ll Cover:

  • The Physics: Tension, compression, and why your wheel doesn’t collapse under you.
  • Compatibility: Decoding hub spacing, rim offsets, and lacing patterns.
  • Parts Selection: Guidance on picking the right gear for your specific riding style.
  • The Math: How to use spoke calculators and measure components accurately.

Cost: This class is free!

What to Bring: You only need yourself, some curiosity, and a way to take notes. You don’t need parts yet, but if you have hubs or rims you would like to use and need to measure, bring them along. Space is limited so we can keep the discussion focused. RSVP to snag your spot!
