Summer Glow at CRASH

Come cool down during this hot summer with a cold drink at makerspace CRASH Space LA! Open to both the public and CRASH Space members.

Featuring guest speakers Carrie from @alpenglowind and Debra of @geekmomprojects, we’ll learn about topics ranging from making your own custom PCB board to a showcase of glowy projects.

RSVP here so we have enough drinks and snacks!

AGENDA

  • 7:00pm – Grab a glass of wine and mingle with fellow makers and maker enthusiasts!
  • 7:30pm – The talks commence
  • 8:30pm – Mingle once again with your newly made friends, and maybe even solder your own glowy badge

TALK 1: You Can Just Make a Circuit Board and No One Can Stop You: When in doubt, route it out!

Carrie of Alpenglow Industries will show off the 10+ small circuit boards she’s made this year and talk about the importance of cheap and fast PCB manufacturing in both making new projects & developing new products. She’ll also show some circuit boards and designs that have been a creative outlet when the world is overwhelming.

Carrie Sundra is an engineer who started and runs Alpenglow Industries, a small business that manufactures electronics kits and yarn-handling tools. She’s passionate about breaking down gatekeeping and making electronics skill development more accessible to adults who are part of underrepresented demographics. Electronics is for everyone, and it’s never too late to learn something new!

TALK 2: Brighter Together: Creating Artistic Assemblies of LED PCBs

Debra will display a range of projects built from custom LED PCBs combined into two and three dimensional structures and discuss methods of connecting them into creative arrangements, both static and flexible.

Debra Ansell, who goes by “GeekMomProjects” online, started making illuminated wearables fifteen years ago. Her methods have evolved from conductive thread and sewable LEDs to creative soldering and custom PCBs, but the goal of making cool light-up clothing and accessories remains unchanged. Her motto is “All tech is wearable if you try hard enough.”
